Najvarakizhi This is a process of perspiration in which the sweat glands are activated for detoxification. The process is carried out under the supervision of a physician by two trained therapists for duration of 60-90 minutes. Sirodhara Sirodhara literally means continuous flow of liquid on head. Jet of Herbal oil, milk induced with medicinal herbs or buttermilk is streamed in a peculiar way on forehead constantly for 40-60 minutes for 7-21 days for optimum result. Insomnia, headache, depression and stress are addressed via this treatment. Vasthi Herbal oils and medications are administered through rectum for a period of 5-10 days for detoxification of bowels and intestinal strength. This treatment is also known as medicated enema and beneficial for kapha dominated individuals suffering from arthritis, gastric issues, rheumatism and chronic constipation. Sirovasthi Herbal oil is poured on head in a jar shaped cap to hold the oil for a period of 40-60 minutes per day for 7-14 days. Udvarthnam It is a treatment famous for its peculiarity, herbal powders are applied on the body by two therapists at a time on the whole body and gentle massage is performed for 45-60 minutes daily for 7-14 days. Snehapanam This is a process carried out under panchakarma therapy as purvakarma to dilute the toxins generated in the body by oral intake of herbal decoctions including clarified butter (ghee). Thalapothichil Paste of a medicinal herb is applied to the scalp for treatment according to the doshas predominant in the body. Panchakarma Panchakarma is a combination of two words; “panch” means “five” and ‘karma’ means “actions”, so a combination of five actions is known as panchakarma. Pradhanakarma This is a combination of five procedure of purification of the whole body. Vamana (Emesis), Virechana (Purgation), Niroohavasti (Decoction enema), Nasyam (administration of medicine through nostrils), and Raktamokshana (bloodletting). Emesis (vamana): Internal and external oleation is performed followed by cold therapy (fomentation) and hot therapy (steam bath) is given subsequently for liquefaction of the toxins in the body. The medications induced stimulates the body internally and toxins are released through sweat glands and vomiting. This process is beneficial for body type dominant with kapha tendencies. Asthama, acidity and other forms of diseases related to lungs are cured through this process. Purgetation (virechana): Toxins from bowels are eliminated with this procedure. The oleation done in the poorvakarma helps the liquification of toxins in the bowels. Herbal Laxatives are administered to clear the clutter from bowels easily. This procedure is very effective for all the problems related to intestine, bowels and stomach. Such type of illness is found in people with predominant vata dosha and purgation is an effective procedure to cure such ailments. Enema treatment (Vasthi): This is vital part of panchakarma treatment beneficial for chronic diseases. Individual should keep themselves in room temperature at all times, no external source should be used to heat or cool down the body. Daytime nap should be strictly avoided Refrain from sexual activities including masturbation. Habit of early to bed and early to rise should be induced in schedule.
